You Found the QR code! - Every Quilt has A Story!

A unique creation by mother-daughter team,

In the summer of 2022, I started teaching Emsley (7) to piece a quilt together using scrap fabric that spans a few decades.   Well, we had such a great time sewing, creating, and employing all kinds of different ideas & craft techniques, Practice Makes Progress ended up at a size of 95 x 116 inches. Without any practical way of actually quilting the pieced top, I started looking into Long Arm Quilters.  I had hand quilted many quilts over the years, but it hadn't been in the last 7 as "someone(s)" tended to take a lot of time effort and space for other things.  Never-the-less, as I began to look into options to have Practice Makes Progress quilted or purchasing a machine that would help us do it ourselves, it became evident that this was an endeavor that could become more than just a hobby and so began The Uncommon Quilt Company!

ABMs Innova M24, that we fondly named Brutus, arrived in our home in January of 2023.  Practice Makes Progress was custom quilted and finally completed in October of 2023.  

The title of this creation is just as important and meaningful as the quilt itself.  The traditional colloquialism is "Practice Makes Perfect", but while trying to homeschool, something that was definitely not in the original plan (thanks covid), and just learn the basics, it became important to me to impart a different philosophy on my child.  We don't practice until we get to be perfect, something that is completely unachievable; we practice so we can just keep getting better and better.  Better at enhancing our craft, better at spending time together, and better at creating as many wonderful memories as possible, that every quilt we make, can hold! 

For me, Practice Makes Progress isn't just about teaching my daughter to piece a quilt, but an attempt to challenge myself and take all the knowledge, techniques, and technology I've learned over the years and incorporate it into this quilt and truly complete its Practice Makes Progress name! It's certainly been an adventure and while It's not perfect, and I sure wouldn't want it to be, it's filled with sentiment, memories, and endless little

 "easter eggs" that mean so much to us.
